12 July 1971

I am Mevlana.
We took path with deep love,
We saw the one who fell onto the path. [we saw the ones who took HIS path]

Isn't there any that comes from the moon?
Does it not give its [? your ?] light? [sun==Prophet Mohammad; moon==Hazrat Ali]

There is no narrowness of the earth,
The being of the heart is a lot.

Let it [your hand] not find the rose with its thorn,
Let your hand touch its branch slowly [gently].

The one who finds his/her equivalent
Does not say, "Which one?"
Does not give beyond what is presented.

Let the smoke be dispersed,
Let peace be given,
Let no ice be put under the word. [talk warmly, nicely, not coldly]

Fruit is not eaten before it gets its taste. [before it ripens]
Even if it is eaten, it is not loved. [analogy with spiritually immature human...]

Gazelle promenades in the forest,
It promenades, but what does it do?
It [just] lives its earth day,
It runs away from the wickedness of the human.

The one that you look at as beauty,
You see [him/her/it] as beautiful;
Whatever intention you open [set/aim],
You find that.
Let it be as you open, [let it happen according to your intention]
Let the one that you choose, come to the day. [set your intention according to your day / do not set your intention for impossible...]

Do not forget:
If stone comes in front of you [on your path],
Do not throw [it] by kicking:
Take [it] in hand, put [it] aside
So that the one who comes after you, is not tripped either.

At the place where there is chat,
There is tranquility.
At the place where there is tranquility,
There is salvation.

Destiny is in accordance with human's behavior,
[destiny is in accordance] With how he/she walks hand in hand;
[destiny is in accordance with] Neither the one that comes, nor the one that goes,
But [it is in accordance with] his/her conformity to the going of the path.
Destiny is in accordance
Not with him/herself [alone],
But with how two humans conform [to one another/to events].

The one who plays saz and says word [sings], [saz= a stringed instrument (which somewhat resembles a lute)]
The one who makes HIS human sad, [he/she offends another human by bad words]
When his/her hand gets tired,
When his/her saz is broken,
When his/her voice gets hoarse,
He/she resembles hollowed pumpkin.
The one who has no fear of [from] Allah
Is the one who says [bad] word to HIS human.
Even if fault is seen,
One should stay away from saying [it],
One should try to repair his/her circle. [all humans are one, they are hand in hand and form a circle; every human should help the one who makes mistake, should try to repair the circle...]

Beauty is
In seeking and finding while the body is healthy,
[beauty is] In opening the event,
In interpreting [it] as good deed.

'To wear oneself out'
Is to spend the lifetime in vain.
Do not be mistaken:
My Allah orders [you] to work according to your power;
[however,] If you work above [more than] your power,
[then] You behave cruelly toward your body.

If you lay your foundation strongly,
Then you build on it strong wall.

Effort [is] as much as [human's] strength,
Health, [is] The Giving of my Allah;
Why do we complain?

You hang the cloth on the hanger;
If you throw [without hanging], you find unequivalently [different, i.e. wrinkled].

You prune the grapevine,
You save its branch,
You throw [put] it in the stove.

Let human not see him/herself superior to [other] human.

If there was no mistake,
Would there be any need for pardon?
Mistake is human's as well as pardon.

Love [is] a bunch;
Let it be in the hand
Of the smokeless path,
Of the soft human.

25 July 1971

I am Mevlana.
Do not be feverish,
Do not complain saying, "Enough."

Why do you graft?
In order to take its fruit without fault. [so that the tree has better fruit]

You do not uproot the tree
In order to burn [it] in the stove.
Dry branch is needed for the stove.
The one who uproots the tree
Is, of course, the one who revolts against my Allah,
Not the one who says, "Let me find my alimony."
Stove both heats [you] and cooks your food.
Yet, dry branch is necessary for the stove;
Abundance of smoke occurs in the one that burns wet branch.

The one that suffers is not you but the body.
The one that migrates [to after earth life] is not the body but you.

Each human says, "My Allah," he/she exults,
As much as he/she exults, he/she runs.
Go as much as you pass.
There is no turning back.
Drink as much [spiritual water] as you [can] take,
It is not [a] measure for the lifetime.
If you say, "Do I take, do I not take?"
It is empty. [it is meaningless]
[drink and] Say, "Do I exult, do I not exult?"
It is sufficient.

30 July 1971

I am Mevlana.
The one who says,
"If majesty comes with force,
It [force] is loved if its owner is loved,"
Does he/she not love the one who is weak?

Taking his/her place of each one [spiritual degree of each one]
Who conforms to the flow of the water
Is according to his/her measure.
In water, there is fish as well as frog.
What the one who knows to come to his/her senses
Will search in the water
Is the fish of course.

Is it ember that burns?
Is it snow that freezes?
Heart is filled with deep love.
[when] Ember is burned for [because of] the snow,
One looks at the snow with pleasure.
In snow, if there is ember too,
[then] The value of the snow increases.

You and I found The Meaning.
Where is 'my giving' from?
Where is 'my coming' from?
You are the doubtless human
Of the smokeless nest; [nest==Mevlana's/Garib's congregation]
You are the earth arm of Mevlana,
You are at the source of his [? HIS ?] [spiritual] water.
The one who wishes, finds.

The one who knows to respect
Is the one who obeys the rule.

Even though "mihrab" belongs to "imam," [mihrab=niche in a mosque wall indicating the direction of Mecca; imam=the officiating priest of a mosque] [During prayers in a mosque, imam sits in front of the public at the place where mihrab is.]
One needs to find the one who befits, [imam should be a person suitable for that position]
One should make human know the one that comes as [is] necessary. [imam should be a wise human who knows The Meaning...]

Let Satan come to human as slave.

There is no human without place. [? There is no human who is irrelevant. ?]
[however,] The one who is without path, [? The one who is corrupt, ?]
Let my Allah be Helper of him/her [so that he/she finds HIS path].

I am Mevlana.
Decorated writing
Looks nice.
Even though we are not calligrapher,
Specialty is in the giving of the coming [to earth/to after earth life]. [we are telling you about the details of the migration]
One looks
At the tall one of the poplar,
At the round one of the pine,
At the pen of the [spiritual] washer;
One looks at the writing one of the washer.
Because the word [i.e. preaching] is up to the dome of the sky. [preaching is limited with what earth eye sees, i.e. the sky as seen from the earth...]
[whereas the] Writing: walking that lasts until the day of the universe.
What is given to them is service for his/her [spiritual] education.
What comes from us [is] for all [humans].
[what comes from us] Gives leaf to the grapevine [leaf==human; grapevine==Mevlana's congregation]
[what comes from us gives] Soil to the wool ball. [sand to path/ soft path to human]

The one who has the trump in the hand,
[he/she] Has no hesitation, [he/she is sure of him/herself]
[he/she] Has no more fear of losing. [in a card game the person who has the trump in his/her hand would think that he/she would not lose...]
[similarly,]
The one who knows [that there is] water in the well,
[he/she] Does not think that it will [may] disappear.
Hazrat Osman says,
"Do neither trust the trump that is in the hand,
Nor the goose that is in the herd.
[because] Trump is spent, [trump may be lost]
Goose makes spend."

Since you said, "My Allah,"
Do not expect from human.
Yet, no matter what, do not break heart.

7 August 1971

I am Mevlana.
Laugh without being feverish.
Come without complaining about the thorn of the rose.
We gave hand to the wool ball
Of the one who laughs with the one who comes,
Of the one who loves our path.

If you say,
"We came, we will migrate,
We are passing by the earth," [we are temporary on earth]
If you do not hit human with human,
Then when the last day comes,
You do not cry saying, "Ah! [I am sorry for what I did.]"

My Allah does not give narrowness to HIS human
During the [his/her] lifetime.
HE does not erase human's earth love.
The one who says, "I am always in trouble,"
Is mistaken.
He/she makes the narrowness up him/herself.

Does fire ignite fire?
If it is like that, is the faithful [human] scared of hell? [if fire does not ignite fire, why would the faithful who burns with the "fire of the deep love for Allah" be scared of the "fire of hell"?]
Does the fire look at the weed?
Does it put ring around the flower? [i.e. does it tie the flower in a bunch]
If it is like that, then what would it [the fire] do with [in] the heaven?
We became fire, we were roasted.
Like in the example of 'pervane,' [pervane=a bug that flies to/around the light]
We whirled only for HIM.
We whirled, we whirled, we only saw HIM.
We burned for HIM, we were reunited with HIM.
Be entrusted to my Allah,
Let you burn with HIS deep love [too].

17 August 1971

I am Mevlana.
The one who looks for peace
Is the one who sees his/her [? HIS ?] [spiritual] water, faraway from his/her place;
[because] Peace is not looked for.

No feverish path is given
To the one who knows his/her habit,
To the one who sieves his/her sand.

Soft wool ball,
Knot in wool ball
Occurs in each human.
The one who is soft, unties with patience.
[however,]
If wool ball says word about his/her place [? about HIS earth ?], [if human complains about his/her condition on earth]
If human has [his/her] eye on the earth, [if human acts as if earth is his/hers, as if earth is permanent]
Then trouble does not end by walking.

Wall is not built as [a] whole:
One puts support to the wall,
Window is opened at the place where it is necessary.
Foresee [save] [a] place of window for each wall.
[similarly,]
Do not accept each event as unique
From the floor to the ceiling.
Why is window opened?
In order to look around.
Openness enters the structure of each event [too].

The one who is bad-tempered,
[and] Who says, "Let me build wall,"
Thinks about the window [like this]:
"Let there be no support,
Let there be no waste of time," he/she says.
One puts heart in straight wall. [one rushes to build the wall without support and window...]
Because building of the wall that was started [like that]
Comes as easy.

The one who opens the event like [a] bed sheet
Stretches
Not [from] two ends,
But [from] four ends.
When one end is let go, then wrinkle forms.

Once it [sheep] crosses the wall,
Let him/her go and look for the sheep.

Let you be at ease,
Let you not give place to worry. [do not worry]

'Meyhane' makes one look for meydan; [meyhane=bar/restaurant like public place in 14th century where wine was served]
Meydan embraces humans,
Gathers faithful humans.
The one who finds the meydan,
Does not glance at the event;
"My Allah gives HIS path,
HE thinks of HIS each human," he/she says.

The one that opens the cocoon is butterfly,
The one that chooses the silk, [is] human.
The one that opens [digs] the well is human;
The One Who gives its water, [is] my Allah.
No crown is given to the butterfly
Because it came out of the cocoon.
HIS human is not made sit on thrown
Because he/she chose the silk.

Neither does the rose feel proud because it decorates the garden,
Nor does the water become foamy because it waters the flower.
Why does foam [bubble] occur?
Because of the speed.
[for that reason]
The water that is given to the garden
Is not let flow fast.
The water that boils from [comes out] the ground [i.e. the spring water],
How much ever it may be strong,
It does not spread around.
It walks at the place where it boils, [it flows around the place where its spring is]
As much as it walks, it waters the flowers.
The water that descends from high, becomes foamy.

Let one enter the mosque
Not because it is [a] building,
But saying, "Let it give purity to the water of my wool ball
So that my soul is washed."

To give sadness to human and to take shelter in worship
Does not clean you.

How much ever unripe grape may be sour,
If you wait, it takes its taste. [it ripens]

'To abstain from the crazy'
Is 'not to hear the saint,'
Is 'not to conform to HIS path.'
Do not find the crazy [as being] irrelevant,
Do not say, "He/she is shameless."
[because]
One does not know whether he/she is crazy because of
The earth, or
The deep love [for Allah].

Do not say, "Stop," to the one who runs away,
[because] One does not know whom he/she is running away from.
Do not say, "Walk," to the one who stops,
[because] One does not know whom he/she is waiting for.
It means this:
Do not throw hand, tongue, eye to anybody; [do not disturb anybody with hand, tongue, [or] eye;]
Someone's situation concerns nobody. [do not disturb others, mind of your own business...]
Word from me to you:
I threw eye to your heart. [I glanced at your heart] [here, Hazrat Mevlana jokes by using / throwing the words 'word, eye' for good purposes...]

The one who takes the ship,
The one who says, "I am the captain,"
Knows his place, [? Knows its [the ship's] place, ?]
Turns the rudder to [away from] the wave, the storm;
[thanks to the captain,] Sorrowless days come to you.
[captain==saint]

20 August 1971

I am Mevlana.
The one who says,
"Let me cross the line, let me stand in the front,"
Is mistaken.
If crossing the line was in his/her hand,
Then each human would say, "Let me pass to the front,"
Because of that, chaos would occur.
My Allah marked each event with [a] line:
Whether HIS human's intention conforms or not,
"It will be like that!" HE said.
If you say, "Let my world pass nicely," [if you say, "I wish that my life on earth passes nicely"]
Then flower the line. [put flowers on the line [line==destiny]]

22 August 1971

I am Mevlana.
If HIS human's intention is asked,
Earth's spinning changes.

Earth spins, it grinds human.

Each one who/that comes,
Comes on duty,
Even the sand grain.

His/her smoke dispersed, HIS human bowed.
The one who bowed, [bowed] not from fear,
But because he/she loves, of course.
The one who knows The Being of my Allah,
What would he/she be scared of?
I arrived in HIM because I took shelter in HIM.
I arrived in HIM by loving WHAT HE gave.
I arrived in HIM by knowing WHAT HE gave.

What does "you, me" mean? [how dare you use 'you-me'?]
Of course, all [humans] [constitute] one [single] wool ball...

'Meyhane' to drunkenness, [meyhane=bar/restaurant like public place in the 14th century where wine was served]
To drink wine. [? Wine to drink. ?]
The one who wishes to drink, runs to find HIM.
Do not say about meyhane, "House of drunk,"
Make meyhane one with earth. [consider meyhane as a part of the earth life...]

Do not think that earth is [a] dungeon,
Do not say, "[earth is] Illicit for human."
What is illicit, is the one that is forbidden
In the moment when it became illicit.
In the moment when it is forbidden, you can not take [it] in your hand anyway.

If human knew his/her mistake,
It means that he/she saw his/her pardon.

My Allah Who is my Owner
Sees of course the intention.

The one who wishes:
If he/she does not get what he/she wishes for him/herself,
Then let him/her [make the same] wish for all [humans].
From what all humans get, you get [your] God-given share too.
The God-given share of the one who says, "Only to me,"
Is scarce.

The one who knows to love
And the one who finds HIS path
Are one [same].

If you do not love WHAT comes from my Allah,
"You did not see WHAT my Allah gave," I say to you.

I am Mevlana.
I saw nicely. [I am welcome]
I conformed to the flow of the water.

No [bad] word is said
To [about] the saying of the [spiritual] washer,
To [about] how he/she knows to mature [spiritually],
To [about] how he/she sees the one who wishes [for HIS path],
To [about] how he/she loves all humans.

Door is closed, why?
So that the sound of the home is not heard [from outside].
Why would soft human give sound?
In the home that does not give sound,
Would the door stay [be left] open?
Wrong. Door is placed in the structure of the home too.

Both the one who makes the home
And the one who puts the picture on the wall
Think of the same thing.
Human thinks, "I make decoration for the surrounding," [human thinks that he/she makes the decoration for others]
Yet, he/she thinks of him/herself only.
[but] It [this] is never wrong:
Even mountains, stones deck themselves out,
Why would human not deck him/herself out?
However, human's adornment too,
Let it be simple like the mountains' adornment.
Everything that goes to extreme
Appears as ugly to the eye.
Because simplicity suits the majesty of the mountain [the best].
Beauty is not in appearance,
But in seeking.

The standing of the glass in the window
Is because of duty;
Its standing on the table: ornament.

If you seek fault, you see a lot.
According to the seeking of the human,
Everything is fault[y].
Yet, what is really faulty
Is the seeking [fault] of the human. [if human seeks fault, then he/she is faulty...]

Life
Takes path for Darling,
Finds HIS path,
Sees the arrival.
If life takes path for the body,
[he/she] Finds the ditch.
If he/she wakes up when he/she finds the ditch,
Escape happens easily.
Of course, my Allah opens path to escape
After each calamity
If ever you come to your senses.
